 4. Additional Information

(1) Method for Calculating Academic Years(IMPORTANT)

- The yearly eligibility requirements of the BK fellowship (YouTube video, academic conference) apply for a master’s student even when one applies for the fellowship for the first time during their coursework. The same rule applies to PhD students within 4th semester. PhD students in 5th semester and beyond who are applying for first time are advised to contact BK (bk21eng-admin@yonsei.ac.kr)

Example: Even if a master’s student did not receive the BK fellowship in the 1st semester and was selected as a BK fellow for the first time in the 2nd semester, the student still belongs to the 1–2 semester academic year and is thus obligated to fulfill the first year requirements during the 2nd semester: at least one academic conference presentation and at least one YouTube video upload.

(2) YouTube Video

* BK fellows/participants are required to upload one video to YouTube (5-7 minutes) per year about English literature, linguistics, or rhetoric. (If you fulfilled this requirement in the previous semester, you don't need to create a new video for this semester.)

* If you are an MA student in your 1-2nd semester, you have to submit a YouTube video before applying for the 3rd semester. If not, there can be a disadvantage in applying for the 3rd semester BK fellowship

* Prior to applying for the 4th-semester BK fellowship, MA students should fulfill the 3-4th year YouTube video requirement. PhD students should fulfill the 7-8th year YouTube video requirement before applying for the 8th semester BK fellowship.

*Please refer to the sample : https://www.youtube.com/@englishyonsei2123

*It is not required that the lecturer's face is shown in the video, but it should include the lecture notes on screen and voice narration.

*Please do not delete your video until further notice.

All Youtube uploads made during your time as a BK21 Fellowship recipient are to be uploaded to the Yonsei English Department BK21 Youtube channel. Applying for the scholarship automatically assumes that you have agreed to these terms.

* We will award a number of well-made videos.

(3) Conference Presentations (IMPORTANT)

- BK Fellows are required to present in at least one academic conference, either domestic or international, per year.

For example,

*MA students should give at least 1 Conference presentation and submit 1 YouTube video in their 1-2 semester, and 3-4 semester. (If you are a MA student in your 1-2nd semester, you have to give a conference presentation before/by applying for the 3rd semester. If not, there can be a disadvantage in applying for the 3rd semester BK fellowship.)

*PhD students should give at least 1 Conference presentation and submit 1 YouTube video in their 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 semester.

 - Prior to applying for the 4th-semester BK fellowship, MA students should fulfill the 3-4th year conference presentation requirement. PhD students should fulfill the 7-8th year conference presentation requirement before applying for the 8th semester BK fellowship.

- Be sure to fulfill your academic conference requirements (minimum of 1 conference per year), otherwise your application will not be considered.

(4) Additional Notes

a. A record of your attendance of department workshops, seminars or colloquium from the previous semester may be considered during the BK fellowship/TA scholarship evaluation/selection process.

b. You must contact professors who you are assigned to work for as soon as you are notified.
